Who are we?

We’re a people-first company. Our people are the most important part of our company, and our clients’ people are our most important stakeholders.

The world is our market. A line in a map is just that. We work in challenging projects in the international sphere, and most often than not act as the technical knowledge of those projects. We see our clients more as partners, and we help them achieve their goals. If those goals are to be independent, we help them get there. If instead, it is time to market, our senior team has plenty of experience in delivering high-quality solutions on time and on budget.

The objective of the company is to become an Anti Fragile company. A real-life implementation of the barbell strategy.

The objective of the company is to become Anti Fragile. There is no exact opposite for fragile. Let us call it Anti Fragile, which is beyond resilience or robustness. Resiliency simply means resisting shocks and staying the same; Anti Fragile also means improving and getting better.

This concept is behind everything that has changed with time: evolution, culture, ideas, revolutions, political systems, technological innovation, cultural and economic success, corporate survival, good recipes, the rise of cities, cultures, legal systems, equatorial forests, bacterial resistance … even our own existence as a species on this planet.

In order to make it a reality we use what is called a dumbbell strategy. This is where we focus 80% of our effort on low risk/low reward activities (known and proven offers) and 20% on high risk/high reward activities (bleeding edge technologies and offers). This allows for the company to be robust while at the same time exposing it to potential positive outcomes and discoveries, thus becoming Anti Fragile.

Our Team

Our team combines highly senior professionals with very motivated youngsters. Our shared know-how spans several business areas, from financial to retail, while working with many of the web and technology stacks of the last two decades. It’s involvement with Outsystems goes back to its initial versions. Most of our developers have achieved, at least, one certification. Throughout the years we’ve been active in its community: contributing regularly to Forge, taking part in events like NextStep/OSDC or being involved in some of its community programs, such as MVP or Champions.

We have an informal culture. More focused on value delivered and not on who’s who and who is seen. Our office is known for having meetings at a ping pong table, seeing developers having PlayStation football competitions or card games as a way to take a break from programming sessions and build bonds within the team.

Our Values

These are the guidelines that steer all the decisions we make. Our culture keeps evolving as we grow, as we go from remote-friendly to full remote (covid anyway) to the hybrid model we use now; but our core values keep rock solid.

Justice

Win-Win or No Deal: It’s either a good deal for everyone involved or it’s a no-deal. This means customers, employees and company.
Use your common sense. If you would be ashamed of your mother to find out about it, don’t do it.
Principles-based: Principles are more important than a quick buck. Act accordingly.

Integrity

Say what you mean, do what you say
Be explicit, don’t hide information because it’s uncomfortable
Be Honest and transparent
Be consistent and adhere to strong moral and ethical principles and values

Adding Value

The more value we create, the more successful we will be

Culture of Excellence

Take full responsibility (and know the difference between responsibility and culpability)

Innovation

There are two types of innovation: evolutionary (roof shots) and revolutionary (loon/moon shots)

We aim to do both, where 80% is evolutionary and 20% revolutionary

Cooperation

We are a team and we work as a team to reach our goals
This applies with colleagues, customers and partners
We help the team improve

Ambition

Aim High.
If you aim High and fail, you will still fail above everyone else’s success.
Solve big problems
Don’t say it can’t be done. Say how can this be done?

Work/Life Balance

Burn out is not being committed, is bad planning. Work hard, play hard but have a life
Remote work gives freedom but also responsibility. Use it wisely.

What do we do?

Our focus is on delivering high-quality solutions, fast application delivery and increasing efficiency and time to market.

How do we work?

Portugal is the center of our technology, and it’s from here that we reach our clients around the world and work as a team. At darwinLabs we use a hybrid method between home and office, which means that our teams have the flexibility to choose whether they want to work remotely or at the office, depending on what suits them better. Despite the pandemic, we have always worked like this, so basically, few has changed.

Why do we do it?

Innovation

Innovation is crucial to the continuing success of any organization. At darwinLabs we focus our innovation methods at many levels, by experimenting with new solutions outside our technology and business comfort zone , giving room to our team for digging deeper into new technologies, and try to go as far as we can to understand the topics that could be around the corner.

Social Responsibility

We also focus on people, our people and all the people, especially the ones in need. We believe that one step at the time we can make a difference, so we work through our talents and focus on helping.
How? For example in 2021 we walked, ran and biked and the km were converted in money, good idea right? This year we helped Ajuda de Berço, which works with new mothers and babies in need, Terra dos Sonhos, which fulfills the dreams of kids with cancer and Coração Amarelo, which helps elders to feel less lonely through many types of volunteering.

Let’s see what the future will bring us, but for sure we’re going to continue our mission and we suggest that you do the same, if you can’t donate, volunteer, there’s always a way.
In the wider scope, darwinLabs is committed to this in such a way that it has registered with Pledge 1% movement – a movement of organizations who give a percentage of their earnings, time, equity, services or products to usually non-profits aiming at creating a positive impact in the world.
Once you make part of our team you can count on us to bet on your skills and together we’ll be better professionals.
